Nicaraguan Fruit

Thursday, April 23, 2009

We wanted share some of the different Nicaraguan fruit we've had the chance of eating. Some of the fruit you may have seen before like the pineapple, avocado or the star fruit. However, you may not have seen a guyaba, yucca, granadino or a banana that is that massive before. Granadino is the fruit in the top right picture and Nicaraguans make a good juice out it. Guyaba looks similar to a pear and it is used to make jelly's and jam's. Yucca is technically not a fruit, it is actually a starch and it is a distant cousin to the potato. It is the root that you see next to the avocado. Lastly, the large green fruit on the bottom right picture is a banana. It has been fun exploring and getting to know new cultures.
