If you ask a Nicaraguan what his favorite food is, more than likely the response will be "gallopinto." What is gallopinto? If you've ever been to Nicaragua on a missions trip, you more than likely already know this. It is rice and red beans cooked and mixed together. This typical dish is eaten at any meal of the day, and often at multiple meals by most Nicaraguans. In Spanish, gallo pinto means molted rooster, and since the rice is spotted by the beans, the name is fitting. Here is a picture for your viewing pleasure:
