El Güegüense is traditional folklore in Nicaragua. It's a play/dance that is making fun of some of the original Spanish conquerors that came to Nicaragua. The story is about a father and his two sons and how the father wanted one of his sons to marry the daughter of the governor so he could escape paying the authorities. This man also tried to sell his "goods" using words that had double meanings to make them appear better than they were. One son supported his father in his deception, but the other didn't and told the truth. In the play and dance the three men all wear masks and one has the horse mask because of his "double faced" nature.
