Semana Santa

Thursday, April 8, 2010

Semana Santa, or Holy Week, is the week leading up to Easter and is celebrated every year here in Nicaragua. It is similar to Spring Break in the United States as all the kids and colleges are on break during this time. As mentioned in our post about the Fiesta de Vida Service, most Nicaraguans go to the beach or another tourist location. This is a time of celebration and time with family, there are many traditions that are celebrated during this time regarding the death and resurection of Christ. Here are some photos from the city of Leon where they closed a street near the central park and created art in the streets using dyed grains.
