One of the great things about Nicaragua is that you do not have to own a car to get around. The roads are a little crazy, but it is not very hard to find a wide variety of public transportation to take you anywhere you would like to go for a decent price. A taxi ride in the capital city of Managua can cost about $10 for a long drive, but if it is short it may only be $2. Apart from buses and taxis there are motorcycle taxis and bicycle taxis. These forms of transportation are generally cheap, around 50 cents to about $2 for a ride, and they go where most other forms of transportation cannot.
